Brendan Davis Cup (Senior Hurling) Rd. 3
Kiltale 3-10: Trim 1-8
On an overcast and windy evening, Trim made the short trip to Kiltale for this Brendan Davis Cup encounter. The game was originally fixed for Trim but, with the home pitches deemed unplayable, Kiltale provided a decent surface and, with almost three weeks having elapsed since the previous round, it was good to get a competitive run out.
The home side had much the better of the opening exchanges and, playing with a significant wind advantage, raced into a 1-4 to 0-1 lead after ten minutes. A fine finish to the Kiltale net by the lively Josh Harris and a pointed effort by Kyle Ennis made a significant change to the complexion of the scoreboard but that was short lived as Kiltale finished out the half outscoring the visitors 2-3 to 0-2
Half Time: Kiltale 3-7; Trim 1-4
The second half afforded Trim some respite against the elements and allowed them some decent team exchanges which, unfortunately, they could not convert to scores. A Trim goal, you felt, could have signaled a major revival but it never happened as the Kiltale backs battened down the hatches in the ever-fading light of the evening.
Indeed, scores were hard to find with only 0-7 in total recorded on the score board. This was due to some near misses by Trim and a significant tally of wides by Kiltale.
On a more positive note, this match saw the Senior hurling debut of Padraig Walshe adding to the ever-growing number of young talent coming through from the Minor and U21 ranks.
