Wolfe Tones Decisive Win

Trim were on the receiving end of a heavy defeat at the hands of Wolfe Tones in windswept and wet Kilberry Park in the second round of the Feis Cup on Saturday 15th February on a 5-10 to 0-12 scoreline. While the scoreline flattered the Tones and did little to reflect the heroic efforts of a gallant Trim side who fought to the end there was no doubt of their superiority.

The signs were ominous from the throw in when Wolfe Tones registered 1-2 in the opening five minutes without reply. But Trim dug deep at this stage and slowly clawed their way back in to the match and by the 20th minute had drawn level with six well taken points, three from David Lernihan, two from an in form and hard working Sean Foley and another from Tom Carmody.

Unfortunately Trim were unable to maintain their momentum and Wolfe Tones finished the half stronger with three points to give them a 1-6 to 0-6 scoreline.

HT Bhulf Tón CLG 1-06 v Áth Troim 0-06

Trim started the second half with a really well taken point from Sean Foley and dominated the first five minutes but were rattled by a 6th minute goal from the Tones who took control over the next fifteen minutes when they added 1-5 without reply. Trim registered their next score, a point from a David Lernihan, in the 19th minute and only managed four more points before the final whistle while Tones added 2-2 to the final score.

This will be a good learning experience for the young Trim players. There was plenty of positives from the match, some good open play, a lot of turnovers and a never say die attitude, good solid performances from young players like Sean Foley, Tadgh Carty, Ian Bermingham, Mark Dempsey and Eoin O’Reilly. There was also the welcome return of Eoin O’Connor.

However, the experience and wiles of a very seasoned Wolfe Tones team showed Trim they have a ways to travel yet to be in contention for a Keegan Cup
