Frankie’s Army booked their place in the final after a brilliant semi-final victory over Donaghmore Ashbourne, coming through a dramatic contest where Trim had to withstand a superb second-half comeback.
Trim started brightly, with Garry Fleming getting the opening score before Munners doubled the advantage. The momentum continued when Neil Heffernan produced a moment of magic, slapping the ball into the back of the net for a brilliant goal to give Trim a valuable boost.
Robbie Kenny then struck Trim’s second goal as Frankie’s Army began to build a commanding lead.
Munners was at the heart of the action again when a 45 was played into Foxy, who passed it off to Heff, who was brought down inside the area. The referee pointed to the spot and Munners stepped up to calmly convert the penalty for his first goal of the game.
Donaghmore Ashbourne came flying out after the break and produced a brilliant comeback. Heff opened the second-half scoring for Trim, before a superb support run from Trim’s No. 4 saw him surge up the pitch and pop the ball over the bar.
With Donaghmore piling on the pressure, Trim showed great composure. Foxy produced a fist pass over Bug to settle things down as Frankie’s Army refused to panic.
Despite the Ashbourne comeback, Trim kept their heads and managed the closing stages brilliantly. The final score saw Trim prevail on 3-8 to 2-9, securing their place in the final after a thrilling semi-final battle.
A brilliant team performance, plenty of character, and when the pressure came, Frankie’s Army stayed composed to get the job done.
