What a final. What a battle. What a finish.
From the very first whistle, you could feel this was going to be a day for the brave. Trim hoping to add on to the double dream after the win in Div 1.
Trim got off to the perfect start, with Owen McGrath opening the scoring from play. Robbie Kenny then calmly converted a free before Dunsany broke quickly down the field. It looked like they were in, but Stephen Doyle pulled off a brilliant save to keep Trim in front.
And from that save, Trim went straight up the other end. Bug finished off the move with a great score before Robbie Kenny added another. Kenny was in fine form, knocking over another score as Trim began to build some momentum.
Dunsany finally got their first score after 18 minutes, but Trim responded immediately. Garry Fleming drove forward on a brilliant run and took his score, followed by a superb long-range effort from Neil Heffernan.
Then came a huge moment.
A brilliant ball was delivered in by Kenny, and Nigel made no mistake, finishing it to the net and sending Trim into a strong position.
The lads were playing with real confidence, and when the half-time whistle went, Trim had done the hard work but nothing was won yet
HALF TIME
TRIM 1-7 — DUNSANY 0-5
Dunsany came flying out of the blocks after the restart and began to claw their way back into the game. Trim settled themselves again and managed to restore a goal advantage, but Dunsany weren't going anywhere.
They fought their way back to level the game, and suddenly every single possession felt like it could decide the championship.
With the pressure mounting, Neil Heffernan stepped up from the dead ball and showed nerves of steel, putting Trim one point ahead.
And then came the moment.
Dunsany found an opening and looked to have a real goal opportunity, but Stephen Doyle came out and claimed a high ball brilliantly, denying them the chance and giving Trim another huge lift when they needed it most.
Normal time was gone.
One point separated the sides.
Dunsany threw everything at Trim. The lads were exhausted, the pressure was enormous, but they dug deeper and deeper.
Every tackle mattered. Every clearance mattered. Every second mattered.
And then...
THE FINAL WHISTLE.
🔴⚪ TRIM WERE CHAMPIONS. 🔴⚪
Every Trim team that pulls on the red and white is special, but there is a particular grá for this group.
A mixture of seasoned campaigners and younger players, lads who have been playing and coaching in the Club for years alongside those making their mark — and a team whose families have been such a huge part of the journey.
A massive shout-out to everyone who travelled, cheered, waved a flag and stayed with both teams right to the final whistle on the day.
