Tuairisc Cluiche - Junior A v St. Pat’s Friday 23rd August 7:45pm (rescheduled)
On a typical August evening, last Friday night, our Junior A Peil na mBan panel traveled the 45 mins to Stamullen to play round 2 of the Meath LGFA Championship.
While the evening began in sunshine, as soon as the sun set the temperatures on the sidelines dropped and the change in the seasons became very apparent. However, there was no sign of any drop in temperature on the pitch as the game progressed finishing in a last 3 mins which made the trip worthwhile for the large Trim support on the sidelines.
These teams had already met this year in the league and had done their homework on each other. From the start, it was very much an end to end game with every player on the pitch getting involved throughout the first half. It was the visitors who took first blood with Aoife McDonnell successfully converting a free. Next up, some excellent work on the ball with Trim fighting to get it up the pitch resulted in half back Megan Carolan Flynn adding to the tally. The points continued to flow with a number of Trim players getting scores over the bar. The home side consistently battled putting their own tally of a goal and 5 points on the board before the break.
HT Trim 0:10 St. Pat’s 1:05
The home side definitely had a read on the Trim midfield and defence, causing them no end of problems from the start of the second half. St. Pat’s pulled back the deficit, with Trim only scoring a point while the visitors pulled ahead adding 4 points to the board. Trim missed some chances to pull further ahead, which was both down to some simple errors and the St. Pats midfield going on the offensive, foiling their attempts time and again. A couple of long pauses in play, due to some players on both sides coming off worse in tackles, meant 5 mins of extra time. A draw game kept the crowd hugely entertained. The home side secured the lead with a point from a free adding to the tension. Extra time had begun when Trim’s half back line, who all had a stormer of a game, caught St. Pats out and pushed the ball to Shona White who put a fantastic goal in the back of the Pat’s net much to the joy of the Trim support. The ball came out and St. Pat’s did the reverse this time catching Trim out, leaving the visitors just a point ahead. The Trim kick out was turned over and a free to St. Pat’s allowed them to bring the scoreline level, which was immediately followed by the final whistle.
