On Friday evening Trim faced Kilmessan at a blustery St. Loman’s Park in division 1 of the minor hurling league. Despite playing against the wind in the first half the Trim men got off to the better start and moved into a 1-04 to 0-01 lead after 12 minutes thanks to 2 points each for Alex Cole and Tadgh Foley.
Trim had a well worked goal which started from James Murray at corner back, to Leon Harris who delivered to Conor Reilly who offloaded a lovely pass to a well finished goal from Alex Cole. The Kilmessan forwards who had been a little wasteful at the start of the game started to find their range and added 6 points in the following 10 minutes (4 from frees) with the Trim response being 2 points from Alex Cole (one from a 65) to leave the score 1-06 to 0-07 with just over 20 minutes gone. The visitors had the better of the closing10 minutes of the half scoring 3 points to Trims 2 which were scored by Ruairi McCaffery and Jesse
O’Rourke.
Half time score Trim 1-08, Kilmessan 0-10.
Trim, with the aid of the wind in the second half moved into a commanding lead scoring 1-06 with out reply. The scores came from Ruairi McCaffery and Alex Cole (2 points each), Lee Kearney and Jesse O’Rourke (a point each) and the goal coming from Tadgh Foley. However the visitors mounted a fightback in the final quarter of the game scoring four points without reply to narrow the gap to 6 points but they could not find the goal that they needed to really get them back into the game. With great resilience from Charlie O Connor, Leon Harris and James Murray they held out well in defence. The final score of the game came from another Alex Cole free to leave the final score Trim 2-15, Kilmessan 0-14.
