Trim’s minor hurlers took on Kilmessan in blustery conditions in the second round of the Minor Hurling League Division 1 in Trim last Monday evening. 

Both sides struggled to adapt to the conditions early on. Trim responded to an early point from Kilmessan with two points from Ruairi McCaffery. An 18th minute goal from the visitors, who were assisted by a strong wind in the first half, proved to be the start of 10 minute period of Kilmessan dominance where they registered a goal and 7 points without reply.  For a while it looked as if Kilmessan would build up a substantial half time lead but a resilient Trim side fought back in the closing stages of the half with points from play from Ronan O’Hara, Ruairi McCaffery and Leon Harris and a Conor O’Reilly goal reducing the gap to just 3 points after 28 minutes. Two late Kilmessan points from left the halftime score Trim 1-05, Kilmessan 1-10.

With the aid of the wind in the second half Trim began to secure the majority of possession and scored 5 unanswered points in the opening 10 minutes with 3 points from Ruairi McCaffery and two points from Leon Harris. A Kilmessan free nosed the visitors back in front and they quickly followed this with a goal. Trim responded with a Tadhg Foley point and 3 points from play in just two minutes from Jesse O’Rourke. Charlie O’Connor then pointed from midfield before Ronan Murray and a Ruairí McCaffery 65 put two goals between the sides. Kilmessan got their final point in the 30th minute before Ruairi McCaffery rounded of the scoring with a fine point in injury time.
